  • Are large and very impactful properties.
  • Have a near-equivalent in ReaperTheme, or a combination of properties that together make a near-equivalent.
  • Yeah, my big question is how many of the Live theme properties check these two boxes: If you want to use it lots, you will have to devote a lot of time to Logic, and learn a lot of shortcuts, which isn't much help if you ever want to work on a windows machine, back to square one with a new DAW, at least Reaper is the same across platforms so it isn't time wasted. You would have to manually map around 250 values with a quick look at it, with limited result.

I agree about the drummer, great bit of software, but that too got 'updated' and took a few steps backwards in it's features, just to add more contemprary, ie trendy, features and sounds. Going back into Logic feels very weird, none of the mouse tricks work as you would expect, ie, marquee selct and scroll to zoom, which feels so clunky after Reaper, and when I went back into it to try out the new sampler, I soon found out it was buggy as hell, looks amazing and can do amazing things, but fails at the last hurdle with something silly. I decided to switch over, as there were other new features not visible within a V5 theme, and it didn't take long to adjust. I had got used to one of the themes in Reaper, in V5, which made it look very slick, and was a bit disappointed when V6 came out with the new theme adjuster, which didn't use actual themes, just altered the default one. I've always programmed my own drums anyway because it's quicker than browsing loops, but I suck at doing fills etc which is where this is really helpful and ultimately makes the creative process more fun. It sounds like a trivial thing but it's one of the big features that keeps making me consider migrating to mac/logic from Windows. It's so much more intuitive than browsing loop libraries for the right thing. I will say I really like Logic's drummer feature for writing with. I think my brain just doesn't work as well with the Apple "make it look pretty and keep everything hidden away" approach and I've always got on better with Windows OS in general.

I might just need to spend more time with Logic learning the shortcuts etc though. Can't think of any specific examples but there have often been times where I was fiddling about in logic to do something that would just take me a single click/key press or something in Reaper. I don't mind Logic and all the included plugins etc are great, but I'm much more used to Reaper and find it more intuitive to use. I use Logic for audio related bits at work and Reaper at home for writing/recording music. If you're already used to apple stuff then I guess Logic makes sense! Reaper feels weird to me on a Mac for some reason - like it's too analytical and "windows" for the slick Mac look.
